The Accokeek Foundation is offering a series of classes on organic vegetable gardening during the months of March and April, 2007. The series of five, 2-hour classes will be taught by Shane LaBrake, the Foundation's Senior Agricultural Consultant, former Farm Manager of the Ecosystem Farm, and a well-known practitioner and teacher of farm and garden related topics. There will also be a "hands-on" Saturday afternoon workshop reviewing tools and equipment with practice opportunities in the garden.
The class series, The Year-Round Vegetable Garden - An Organic Approach for Southern Maryland, will be held on five consecutive Thursday evenings from 7 - 9 pm beginning March 8th. The class will be limited to 20 participants on a first-come basis. The cost for the series is $150 for non-members, $120 for members. Some of the recommended reading materials for the course will be available for sale at the Gift Shop, and some of the recommended seed and supply catalogs will be issued at the first class. Classes will be held in the Foundation's Education Building. Pre-registration is required.
