To commemorate our 50th Anniversary, we are having a photo contest, encouraging the community to experience the Accokeek Foundation.

Since 1957 the Accokeek Foundation has provided a haven of natural tranquility near bustling Washington D.C. We provide the community an opportunity to connect with the region's history and its future. At the National Colonial Farm visitors can step into the past and find out what life was like for a typical tobacco-planting family on the eve of the American Revolution. At the Ecosystem Farm visitors can see sustainable organic farming methods at work. Throughout the Park, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Maryland countryside, stroll along the hiking trails, observe the wildlife in its natural habitat, and fish from the pier. Annual special events explore themes beyond the boundaries of the everyday programs. Through music, storytelling, lectures and demonstrations, the past and future come to life.

The Accokeek Foundation's 50th Anniversary Photo Contest is open to any photographers, professional or amateur, with the exception of employees (and their immediate families) and members of the Board of Trustees of the Accokeek Foundation.

Any photo can win! Photos will be judged on overall photographic and artistic quality. The photo's sharpness will be judged relative to the film size only. Judging will be conducted by a team of photographers and artists. Decisions of the judges will be final. Each category will have a first place winner with a prize. Second, and third will receive ribbons. A Best in Show will be chosen from all the photographs received.

During the first two weeks of December all photographs will be on display in the Education Center for visitors to view. Each entry will receive admission for four (4) to Winters Eve with the opportunity to view the photo exhibit.
