The Accokeek Foundation operates a Visitor Center and Museum Gift Shop. You can pick up a site map and informational brochures at the Visitor Center. The Gift Shop carries unique pottery, children's toys, jewelry, soaps and lotions, candles, and a variety of books on history and organic gardening. The shop features an "Item of the Month" theme sale. Members receive a gift shop discount.
Construction of the Accokeek Foundation's new Education Center, which was the primary focus of a five-year capital campaign, is now complete and environmentally-friendly features are being installed. We are proud of the fact that many major foundations, corporations, the state and federal governments, and committed individual donors have contributed to make this building's construction a reality. The Education Center offers climate-controlled space for exhibits and for school programs during inclement weather. We also host many public programs in this building, including lectures and special events. This 'green' building creates opportunities for conservation education, by incorporating sustainable elements such as systems for harvesting rainwater and a living roof. These green features are just another way the Accokeek Foundation uses the physical environment (natural and human-made) as a living classroom.
