Employment Opportunities at the Foundation

The Land Shaping People...People Shaping the Land...Over Time

By blending history, ecology, economics and conservation, the Accokeek Foundation strives to teach land stewardship and sustainable use of natural resources, as well as interpret the natural and cultural heritage of the Tidewater Potomac. The National Colonial Farm, the Ecosystem Farm, and other Foundation activities exemplify the agricultural, preservation and conservation goals that are at the core of the Foundation's mission and serve as an outdoor classroom to further the educational programs that are key to its success. In partnership with the National Park Service, the Accokeek Foundation stewards a 200-acre portion of Piscataway Park and both organizations seek to preserve the view directly across the Potomac River from Mount Vernon.

MUSUEM EDUCATOR: The Accokeek Foundation is accepting resumes for Museum Educators to lead school tours at the National Colonial Farm. Applicants must have a strong interest in history and the environment and be comfortable working with children of all ages. Position requires a team player with excellent communication skills who can work outside in various weather conditions, is able to walk for two hours and do occasional heavy lifting. Time commitment is 9-15 hours per week. Send resume and cover letter to Patti Canter Norment by email at pattinorment@accokeek.org.

MUSEUM THEATER INTERN: The Accokeek Foundation is accepting resumes for Interns as part of the Museum Theater Internship Program at the National Colonial Farm. Interns will create and perform this form of educational theater used at museums, zoos, and cultural sites around the world. Stipends of $500 to $1000 will be paid to qualified candidates. We are interested in college students or recent college graduates who have performance experience and a passion for history. Creativity, imagination and a sense of adventure are also important.

Interns will learn from museum theater professionals and historians as they:

  • Research, develop and perform 18th century characters at the National Colonial Farm, experiencing the living history of an 18th century tobacco farm;
  • Use a variety of theatrical forms and techniques to create performances that explore topics ranging from Native American culture, African American heritage, and colonial history to organic farming, ecology and the environment.
  • Interns work Fridays through Sundays, July 11 through August 24th. Course credit may be available through your institution. To schedule an audition/interview, contact Patti Norment by email at pattinorment@accokeek.org.
