The Accokeek Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Accokeek, Maryland. It was established by private citizens who sought to preserve the view directly across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon and protect the Maryland shoreline from over-development. Now among the oldest land trusts in the nation, the Accokeek Foundation manages a 200-acre portion of Piscataway Park. Among the Accokeek Foundation’s efforts to preserve and interpret this landscape is the National Colonial Farm, a living history museum depicting life on an ordinary Maryland family farm on the eve of the American Revolution. Other Foundation exhibits and demonstration areas reflect the state’s agricultural heritage, including a museum garden featuring plants from Native American, European, and African cultures; the modern Ecosystem Farm, an eight-acre demonstration of sustainable agriculture and solar technology; and the Center for Agricultural and Environmental Stewardship, an education and training resource for farmers and the public. Each year, more than 25,000 visitors, including about 6,000 schoolchildren from the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, participate in programs at our site.

*The non tax-deductible portion for each attendee is $50. The Accokeek Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. Documents submitted to the State of Maryland under the Maryland Charitable Solicitations Act are available from the Secretary of State, State House, Annapolis, MD 21401 for the cost of copying and mailing.
