The Accokeek Foundation Holds Its Annual Children’s Day Event

Calling all Apprentices! Come be part of an Accokeek Foundation tradition! For this year’s Children’s Day event we are celebrating “How Things Were Made: Colonial Apprentice.”

Each year, hundreds of visitors flock to the farm for this popular, annual event. This year, Children’s Day will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the National Colonial Farm. Guests are encouraged to come and participate in featured events surrounding the everyday tasks of a real colonial apprentice!

Guests young and old are invited to learn how things were made in colonial times. Scheduled hands-on workshops include woodworking, blacksmithing, spinning, knitting, and cross stitching. Additional activities include butter making, wool washing and carding, colonial cooking, and hill making. Collect keepsakes along the way!

Guests are encouraged to bring the whole family and a picnic lunch and enjoy a day at the farm!

Activities will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for non-members and free for members. Some scheduled workshops require an additional fee.
